Another Earthquake Hits Korea, This Time At Incheon

Only days after the 5.4 magnitude earthquake in Pohang, another earthquake shook South Korea.

The 2.6 magnitude earthquake occurred early morning on November 24 in the West Sea, near Incheon.

Though the earthquake was small in magnitude and could not be felt by people, it caused people to be alarmed about the possibilities of further and bigger earthquakes on the peninsula.

The earthquake is reported to be the 8th over-2-magnitude earthquake off Incheon harbor in recent years.

The spike in numbers is a surprising and troubling news to South Korea, which has been traditionally considered to be safe from the natural disaster.

Lee Hee Kwon, a seismologist at Kang Won University, warned of the possibility of 7 magnitude earthquake.

“It’s likely that the earthquakes will continue.

In the past, there have been larger earthquakes in Korea. There’s always a possibility of a 7.0 magnitude earthquake.”

Other seismologists and meteorologists urged the government to investigate the potentials of further earthquakes and to better prepare for natural disasters.
